With all of the industry chatter about “more secure” cards, please don’t forget that in most instances, getting to a “more secure” card will require a complete upgrade of your existing access control infrastructure.

Not only will your existing infrastructure need to be upgraded but also a lot of your peripheral applications (time and attendance, vending, etc.) for the standard prox cards.

Most of these programs are not set up to work with encrypted smart cards. Rarely is it as easy as switching cards!

Solution:

The solution is simple. Think twice about switching to encrypted cards and instead ask yourself if the high cost associated with switching will really add any significant value to your security system.
